Brian Conrad, the former acting director of the General Services Administration’s (GSA) Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP), joined Zscaler today as its new head of global compliance, authorizing authority liaison.
Stephen Kovac, global chief compliance officer at Zscaler, made that announcement today at the Zscaler Public Sector Summit in Washington, D.C.
“Brian joins us at a critical time, where not just our nation, but our international allies, are facing a constant barrage of global cyber threats,” Kovac said in a statement to MeriTalk.
“International growth is a top priority for us this year and forward. We will be expanding our FedRAMP Moderate clouds internationally as well as continuing to certify our global cloud in nations that require cloud security certification such as FedRAMP,” Kovac added. “Brian’s expertise will uniquely position us to help continue that growth in our government and governments across the globe with similar certification programs as FedRAMP.”
In his new role, Conrad will help customers to achieve their digital transformation goals by meeting compliance priorities and implementing a zero trust approach.
“From the earliest days of the FedRAMP program, Zscaler has been an innovator, working to ensure the Federal government can deliver modern digital government services, securely,” Conrad said. “Implementing a zero trust cybersecurity framework is mission-critical for every organization, and we must stay focused on separating the signal from the noise. I’m excited to join a team that aligns with my vision of building a secure global digital ecosystem.”
Conrad stepped down from his FedRAMP role on March 22, after serving as the acting director of the program since January 2021. He first joined the FedRAMP team in December 2018.
Prior to his time at GSA, Conrad served in the Marines for 21 years and worked at Booz Allen Hamilton as an IT and cybersecurity analyst for over seven years.
GSA is still looking for someone to fill the FedRAMP director role, which will open for applications on USAJobs later in April.
