The General Services Administration (GSA) has named Dovarius Peoples deputy chief information officer (CIO), a GSA spokesperson confirmed to MeriTalk on Sept. 27.
Peoples is due to start the new job with GSA on Oct. 6.
He has served as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers CIO since 2019, and also as its chief data officer. In his current role, Peoples serves as the principal advisor to the Corps Commanding General and is responsible for information resource management and information technology.
In addition to his time with the Army, Peoples has also held leadership positions at the Office of Personnel Management and the National Security Agency.
A GSA spokesperson said that Peoples is “an experienced leader with an impressive track record, having implemented countless technology projects to improve the delivery of public services.”
“We are thrilled to welcome Dovarius – a leader who is passionate about improving government services through technology – to GSA, where he will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our organization,” said GSA CIO David Shive.
Peoples holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Norfolk State University, and a Master of Science in Information Technology from the University of Maryland, College Park.
