Dr. Chelle Gentemann

Dr. Gentemann is the open science program officer at NASA, on Intergovernmental Personnel Act (IPA) assignment from the International Computer Science Institute (ICSI). She co-created NASA’s Transform to Open Science (TOPS) initiative and co-chair of the White House Office for Science and Technology and Policy (OSTP) Sub-working group on the Year of Open Science.
For 30 years, Dr. Gentemann has worked on passive microwave satellite missions, both domestically and internationally, from launch through decommission, leading research on remote sensing, cloud computing, and open science. She was awarded AGU’s Falkenberg Award and the Radiant Earth Foundation named her one of 15 Leading Women in Machine Learning for Earth Observation.
Dr. Gentemann was co-chair of the National Academy of Sciences and Engineering (NASEM) Committee on Best Practices for a Future Open Code Policy for NASA Space Science, co-chair of the NASEM Standing Committee on Earth Science and Applications from Space (CESAS), and testified to the House Subcommittee on Space and Aeronautics, “Discovery on the Frontiers of Space: Exploring NASA’s Science Mission.”
