Winners of the 2024 Service to the Citizen awards are out and headed by four major category winners from the Federal government and the private sector.

The Service to the Citizen Awards Program – created in 2018 by Martha Dorris, founder of the Public Service Leadership Academy – is recognizing “public servants and their industry partners who demonstrate excellence in delivering services that impact the public’s lives and rebuild trust in government,” the organization said.

The program said that the 2024 crop of “champions of change” will be honored at a reception and dinner on Sept. 13 at the Mayflower in Washington, D.C.

Taking home the top awards in this year’s Service to the Citizen awards are:

  • Government Executive of the Year: Kenneth Corbin, commissioner of taxpayer services at IRS;
  • Industry Executive of the Year: Lee Becker, SVP and executive advisor of public sector and healthcare at Medallia;
  • Lifetime Achievement for Delivering Services to Citizens: Fernando Rivera, CEO of Southeast Louisiana Veterans Care System at the Department of Veterans Affairs; and
  • Customer Experience Trailblazer: Leslie Wagstaffe, director of consumer support group at the Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight within the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services at the Department of Health and Human Services.

In addition, the Service to the Citizen Award program is honoring dozens more across several categories including:

  • Building a Custom-Focused Culture;
  • Delivering Excellence in Digital Services;
  • Using Innovation, Data, and Breaking Down Organizational Barriers;
  • Use of Innovative Technologies to Create a Simple, Seamless, and Secure Service Delivery; and
  • Government Agencies Serving Other Government Agencies.
