The Department of the Air Force Chief Information Officer on Tuesday announced the release of CLARA, a new tool designed to enhance visibility and understanding of AI initiatives across the department.
According to the Air Force Chief Data and AI Office, CLARA aims to provide a centralized platform for sharing information, tracking progress, and fostering collaboration on AI projects – ensuring that all stakeholders are informed and aligned in their efforts to advance the department’s AI capabilities.
“Every warfighter deserves clarity on the tools and capabilities at their disposal,” Air Force Acting Chief Data and AI Officer Chandra Donelson said. “Transparent access to our resources ensures everyone is more equipped and ready to excel in any mission.”
CLARA – which requires a common access card to utilize – is available on the Air Force’s AI Exchange App Store that was launched earlier this year.
Other tools on the department’s AI Exchange App Store include redForce, MACHINA, and NPIRGPT.
Launched in June, NPIRGPT is the Air Force’s experimental generative AI chatbot that can answer questions and assist with tasks such as correspondence, background papers, and code, all within a secure computing environment.
According to the Air Force, the NPIRGPT experiment is an opportunity to facilitate real-world testing, understand the practical applications and challenges of GenAI, and ensure that future implementation is effective and efficient.
The NIPRGPT platform includes user feedback opportunities to help develop governing policies and enable informed conversations with vendors as the department works to incorporate these tools into its operations.
