Cori Zarek has stepped down as deputy administrator of the White House’s U.S. Digital Service (USDS) and taken on the new role of vice president for North America at Apolitical.
According to a Sept. 3 press release announcing the move, Apolitical offers a global learning platform providing government and public sector employees courses, articles, and resources on digital government and policy innovation.
Zarek served at USDS for the last two years, and before that was a deputy U.S. chief technology officer during the Obama administration.
“In two decades of working in and around government, it’s clear that we need to better invest in learning, development, and collaboration opportunities for public sector workers,” said Zarek in a statement. “I’m excited to join Apolitical with its focus on the people who power our governments.”
Zarek was responsible for the strategy and operations of the USDS technology team based at the White House, overseeing 200-plus personnel that work with Federal agencies to improve the delivery of government services.
She previously was the executive director at Georgetown University’s Beeck Center for Social Impact and Innovation, and cofounded both the U.S. Digital Response and the Judicial Innovation Fellowship. She also held roles at Code for America, Mozilla, and the National Archives and Records Administration.
USDS hasn’t confirmed when or who will step into Zarek’s role.
