The Department of Defense (DoD) announced today it has appointed William (Bill) Dunlap as the permanent deputy chief information officer (CIO) for information enterprise (IE).
Dunlap stepped into the acting deputy CIO for IE role in February, after Lily Zeleke stepped down from the position. Today’s announcement makes permanent his position, which oversees a portfolio that ranges from Defense Business Systems to software modernization.
The DoD CIO office made the announcement in a post on X, calling Dunlap “one of DoD’s most technology savvy and enthusiastic leaders.”
“In this role, he develops and implements strategic direction and defense-wide policy guidance to modernize the department’s digital infrastructure that enables the full range of defense operations,” according to the DoD CIO website. “He leads a dynamic team of military, civilian, and contractor personnel to collaboratively drive toward a state-of-the-art digital experience for the warfighter.
Previously, Dunlap served as the CIO and director of the Information Technology Directorate at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).
