The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has chosen Micky Tripathi to serve as the department’s acting chief AI officer (CAIO), an HHS spokesperson confirmed to MeriTalk.

Tripathi will continue to serve as the National Coordinator for Health IT at HHS while the department searches for a permanent CAIO.

“Micky has been a leading expert in our AI work and will provide tremendous expertise and relationships across HHS and externally to guide our efforts in the coming months. Micky already serves as co-chair of the HHS AI Task Force,” stated the spokesperson.

Tripathi has worked with a variety of private organizations, including as chief alliance officer at Arcadia for about nine months, executive advisor at LRVHealth for over three years, and president and CEO of Massachusetts eHealth Collaborative for 15 years, according to his LinkedIn account.

Tripathi holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Vassar College, a master’s in quantitative methods from Harvard University, and a PhD from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
