The State Department is looking to secure its mobile devices and protect against malicious apps–with an app. The department released a request for information on Dec. 20, asking vendors for information about an endpoint protection platform for mobile devices. Responses are due by Jan. 18.
“As technology advances, and mobile devices increase in on-demand pocket size capability, hackers are getting savvier with how they attack organizations and cybersecurity threats are on the rise,” the RFI notes.
With approximately 63,000 mobile devices managed by State’s Mobile and Remote Access Division, keeping the department’s systems secure requires a larger focus than apps. The RFI notes the need to protect against device risk, network risk, and content risk.
“To safeguard against these threats it is critical DOS [Department of State] stay on the cutting edge of mobile security practices. It is for this reason DOS is looking to gather information on mobile threat detection solutions through the use of an Endpoint Protection Platform,” the RFI notes.
The RFI requests a tool that can detect application behaviors, integrate with the department’s mobile device management solution, provide detailed reports on scanned applications, and identify apps that should be blacklisted.
