Carl Coe

Carl Coe is the Chief of Staff for the Department of Energy, led by Secretary Chris Wright. In his role as Chief of Staff he helps manage all aspects of the agency with over 150,000 employees and a $50 billion budget. A key part of his role is working closely with the 17 National Labs and driving the agencies top initiatives including AI, Quantum, Fusion, Nuclear Energy, and Critical Minerals.
Mr. Coe grew up in Raymond, Ohio, a town of 300 people. He graduated from The Ohio State University, and after graduation he began his career in Raleigh, North Carolina. He spent 17 years with PTC in various Senior positions in the Americas and Europe. In his time at PTC, he spent over 10 years in the Federal, Aerospace, and Defense business unit. From 2013-2018, Mr. Coe held senior executive positions at venture-backed companies including MercuryGate and HireVue, both with successful exits.
In 2018, Mr. Coe acquired Mango Practice Management over the next 5 years as CEO. The company grew by over 700% and was acquired by Lightyear Capital.
In early 2025, he joined the Department of Energy to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) activity. In this role, he worked closely with Secretary Wright and 40 key offices in DOE focused on process improvement and cost savings.
