Dr. Cynthia Sutherland

Dr. Cynthia Sutherland, a global cyber executive, safeguarded multiple data types across edge devices and enterprise operations of over 26 networks for 16 diverse industries/sectors. Throughout her 27-year IT career, her mastery extends across all three crucial platforms: on-premises, in the cloud, and in partnership ecosystems.

Celebrated as a “STEM Pioneer Who Rocks” by the NSA and Dreamport, Dr. Sutherland’s cyber journey includes ascending to notable roles, including the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, a U.S. Representative and Global Chair of a multinational security board for NATO and 26 countries, and the inaugural Senior Executive Service-level CISO at FEMA. Her influence extends to multinational entities, where she navigated the intricacies of local, national, international, and multinational cybersecurity landscapes and provided strategic insights to fortify products and enterprises globally.

As a cyber leader, her passion is addressing the connection between Cybersecurity Maturity Models, Mental Health in Cybersecurity, and National Security. Currently, she is the U.S. Public Sector Lead for Security Assurance at Amazon Web Services (AWS).
